MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have:
- ABET Certificate
- Basic knowledge of general manual work
- Basic knowledge of handling equipment and appliances
- Understanding of health and safety procedures
- Basic knowledge of lawn and garden maintenance
- Basic understanding of pruning and trimming
- Basic knowledge of cleaning and maintaining equipment
- Ability and willingness to work in or near rivers, dams and canals
- Willingness to work in confined spaces
Higher qualifications will be an advantage.
Previous experience performing manual work will also be an advantage.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Successful candidates will:
- Perform general assistant and manual labour duties.
- Load and offload furniture, equipment and other goods.
- Clean government vehicles, machinery and equipment.
- Keep workstations and working areas clean.
- Clean and maintain lawns and grounds.
- Prune trees when required.
- Maintain canals and office grounds.
- Assist with repairing buildings, fences and other structures.
- Use hand and power tools when required.
- Assist with maintaining departmental infrastructure.
- Help clean and repair canals, drains, dams and pipelines.
- Assist with repairs to departmental buildings.
- Maintain gardens, plants, trees and lawns.
- Rake and mulch leaves.
- Irrigate plants and lawns.
- Sweep walkways and grounds.
- Assist with cleaning buildings.
- Maintain sidewalks, driveways, parking areas and other ground features.
- Assist with fertiliser application according to required procedures.
IMPORTANT WORKING CONDITIONS
Successful candidates must be prepared to:
- Perform physically demanding manual work.
- Work in or near rivers, dams and canals.
- Work in confined spaces when required.
- Work at different schemes throughout the Western Cape.
- Work away from home when required.
