Job Overview
SANParks is recruiting two Skilled Environmental Monitors to support environmental conservation and ecological monitoring activities within the Kruger National Park. Successful candidates will assist with biodiversity monitoring, invasive species management, field ranger duties, and the protection of Working for Water teams.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 Certificate
- At least 1 year experience in ecological monitoring work
- At least 1 year experience performing Field Ranger duties
- Basic Field Ranger Course completed
- Valid Code 8 Driver’s Licence
- Clean criminal record
- Valid Police Clearance Certificate or proof of application
- Understanding of basic Health and Safety principles (Health & Safety Level 1)
- Ability to conduct long patrols in Big Five environments
- Ability to work weekends, public holidays, and overtime when required
- Must be medically fit and willing to undergo a medical assessment
Firearm Requirements
- Firearm Competency: Self-Loading Rifle (Unit Standards 119650 and 123511)
- Knowledge of the Firearms Control Act (Unit Standard 117705)
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and map alien invasive plant species
- Use environmental monitoring systems including:
- Quick Capture / Survey123
- Carry Map
- CyberTracker
- Monitor biological control sites and agents
- Assist with verification of Working for Water operational areas
- Support conservation activities within the park
- Accurately record incidents and sightings in field notebooks
- Guard Working for Water teams when required
- Assist with EPWP projects across the park
- Perform additional duties including maintenance and grass cutting
