About the Border Management Authority
The Border Management Authority (BMA) is an armed service established in terms of Section 199(3) of the Constitution through the Border Management Authority Act No. 2 of 2020. It serves alongside the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) in safeguarding South Africa’s borders.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate
- Valid PSIRA Grade B Certificate
- Valid Firearm Licence
- No experience required
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Ability to work flexible hours when required
- Willingness to work overtime
Key Responsibilities
Security and Risk Management
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments
- Perform monthly business security evaluations
- Develop and implement risk registers
- Analyse and evaluate internal controls to mitigate risks
- Update risk registers in collaboration with stakeholders
Security Equipment Management
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of security equipment
- Perform daily testing of alarm systems
- Conduct weekly alarm system checks with monitoring companies
- Ensure all security equipment remains operational and serviceable
- Ensure fire-fighting equipment is available, maintained, and serviced annually
Access Control and Property Protection
- Manage access control procedures
- Verify visitor documentation and information
- Protect company property and assets
- Compile monthly branch security evaluation reports
- Develop and maintain security recommendation priority lists
Record and Asset Management
- Maintain firearm registers and track firearm movements
- Manage equipment registers
- Manage ID card registers
- Manage visitor card registers
- Monitor vehicle security reports and technology systems
- Coordinate and plan quarterly road security checks
Stakeholder and Compliance Management
- Build relationships with BMA business units
- Participate in committees, forums, conferences, and workshops
- Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders
- Communicate progress and challenges effectively
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations
