PROCESSING PLANT ARTISAN VACANCY – SAB (CALEDON)
Position: Processing Plant Artisan

Location: AB InBev Agriculture Research and Development Centre, approximately 15km from Caledon, Western Cape
Job Purpose
The Processing Plant Artisan will be responsible for ensuring the optimal operation of the pilot malting plant and micro-brewery. The successful candidate will reduce equipment breakdowns, perform preventative maintenance, operate production areas, conduct in-process quality checks, and work closely with the Processing Plant Operator.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Requirements
- Operate the process area according to work instructions and usage standards
- Operate the micro-brewery and pilot malting plant
- Perform required quality checks and analyses
- Conduct in-process and brewery quality analyses
- Record waste on appropriate documentation and systems
- Review waste trends and identify improvement opportunities
- Monitor process performance against production targets
- Complete all short interval control documentation
- Respond quickly to production stoppages and process interruptions
- Apply appropriate problem-solving techniques
- Perform housekeeping duties using 5S principles
- Follow all safe work practices
- Identify and correct unsafe work practices
- Assist fellow team members when required
Maintenance of Plant and Equipment
- Carry out routine maintenance according to schedules
- Participate in maintenance and cleaning days
- Monitor maintenance trends and identify potential issues
- Investigate and resolve quality-related production problems
Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement
- Apply effective problem-solving techniques such as 5 Why Analysis and quick-fix routines
- Use run charts, control charts, and trend analysis to identify waste and process variation
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Proven technical knowledge of electrical standards
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematic drawings
- Understanding of process control environments
- Strong maintenance and troubleshooting skills
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum N4 Electrical or Millwright qualification
- Trade Test qualification in Electrical or Millwright
- Computer literacy
- Valid driver’s license
Advantageous Requirements
- Malting and brewing experience
- Previous experience in a Process Control Environment
