​How to apply for a teaching assistant position under the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) for 2025

Ensure you meet the following requirements:

  • Age: Between 18 and 34 years old (must not turn 35 before 31 March 2026).
  • Residency: Must live within a 5 km radius of the school (or 30 km for small, micro, or farm schools).
  • Education:
    • Education Assistants: Must have passed Matric English.
    • General School Assistants: Matric is not required for certain roles (e.g., Infrastructure Support, Sports and Enrichment Agents).
  • Employment Status: Must not be currently employed, studying, or receiving any form of government grant (including NSFAS or Funza Lushaka).
  • Criminal Record: Must have a clear criminal record.
  • Additional Considerations: Youth with disabilities and women are encouraged to apply. ​

Application Process

  1. Register on SAYouth.mobi:
    • Visit https://sayouth.mobi, a zero-rated platform, meaning no data charges apply.
    • Create a profile with your personal details, educational background, and work experience.
    • Search for available teaching assistant positions in your area and submit your application online.
  2. Prepare Required Documents:
    • Certified copy of your ID or passport.
    • Certified copy of your Matric certificate (if applicable).
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV).
    • Police Clearance Certificate (PCC).
    • Affidavit declaring you have no criminal record (if PCC is pending).
    • Testimonials (e.g., from former school, local chief, or church leader). ​

Positions Available

The BEEI offers various roles:​

  • Education Assistant Positions:
    • Curriculum Support
    • ICT/e-Cadres
    • Reading Champions​
  • General School Assistant Roles:
    • Child and Youth Care Worker
    • Handyman (no Matric required)
    • Sports and Enrichment Agent (no Matric required)​

Note: For Education Assistant roles, a Matric certificate is required, with NQF Level 4, 6, or 7 qualifications being advantageous.


Stipend and Duration

  • Duration: Positions typically last for 5 months.
  • Stipend: Approximately R4,000 per month, plus R30 for data usage. ​

Application Deadline

The application window for Phase 5 opened on 22 April 2025 and closes on 9 May 2025. ​
